Internet-enabled Booking and Database Applications
The InteRes Internet booking and database applications are created by
InteRes GmbH of Germany. The system is implemented using a 3-tier architecture.
The 3-tier software architecture emerged in the 1990s to overcome the
limitations of the 2-tier architecture. The third tier (middle tier server)
is between the user interface (client) and the data management (server)
components. This middle tier provides process management where business
logic and rules are executed by providing functions such as queuing, application
execution, and database staging.
In this architecture, the InteRes IBE (enhanced and marketed by Aerotech
Systems under the registered trademark CyberRes© Engine) is used
as the back end and Java servlets are used to create the front end. All
business functions are written in Java, and have a CORBA interface. Business
functions include the session management, high level CRS access and all
database related functions like user profiles, booking history, log files,
etc

CyberRes Engine (the IBE) is the ideal solution for travel distribution
organizations to provide reservation functionality via the Internet distribution
channels.
Programmed in 100% pure Java the engine is platform independent. It runs
on all major environments such as Linux, HP-UX, SUN Solaris, IBM AIX,
and PC-based Windows systems.
CyberRes Engine supports formats of virtually all major GDS based on IBM/TPF.
Other systems can be integrated. CyberRes Engine integrates an interface
to the GDS-independent MultiRes gateway, and dynamically manages all processes
to carry out online reservations. By extending the host connection, the
system capacity can be expanded seamlessly. The web-enabled booking site
we developed for Midwest Express Airlines (www.midwestexpress.com) which
generates 2,000 PNRs per day is a classic example of the quality, flexibility,
and reliability achieved with this technology.

CyberRes Engine also has the unique capability to query multiple fares
and availability databases. This enables the simultaneous display of published
and negotiated fares with availability.
CyberRes Professional is a front-end for CyberRes Engine. With a simple
user interface it reduces time and money spent for training in using different
types of GDS. Requests run in parallel to several GDS to receive the best
possible result. As a modular system CyberRes Professional enables the
integration of other specific functions with the organization.
CyberRes Professional is a client application written in Java which serves
as the front-end for the 3-tier CyberRes architecture. CyberRes Professional
runs on any desktop that supports the Java Runtime Environment.
